Preaching in the 21st Century

A quick glance, one might be led to believe that we are on a collision course to self-destruction. The world where Paul once walked is now a fast-paced global community that is confused with a distorted view of who God is.

One hundred years ago there were two billion people on the planet. Today there are over six billion. Almost half of the people who ever walked on the earth are alive today, and half of those are children and young people.

Centuries ago we were not dealing with the AIDS epidemic, nuclear threats or continuing changes in the global economy that have brought more problems to an already complex situation. Crime, homelessness, unemployment have risen, and the satisfaction of the people has declined. Constant screams of powerfully misleading ideals are infiltrating society from all angles. Greed, self-indulgence and disease affect all levels of society.

Is there room for evangelism in the 21st century? It is important to remember that the Gospel is just as powerful today as it was 2,000 years ago. We as evangelists must thrust ahead, recognizing opportunities for evangelistic outreach throughout the world. Today we have more tools to reach people with the message of Christ
than at any other time in history.

Amid the layers of noise and confusion, God hears the prayers of those who seek Him. He sees the work of His people. He has provided us with an unprecedented opportunity to reach all nations with the love of Christ. This is the 21st century, our opportunity!
