God's blessing

We all want to prosper, live well, and have the "good things in life." There's nothing wrong with that. God wants to bless us with the good things He has created.

How can we receive God's blessing?

Consider what God said to Joshua soon after he succeeded Moses: "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful" (Joshua 1:8).

Notice the progression. First, Joshua was to study the Scriptures diligently—to the degree that his speech would be filled with God's law.

Second, he was to meditate on God's Word day and night. He was to think about what he read in the Bible until he understood its application in his life and the lives of God's people.

Third, he was to obey God's Word by applying it in his life. Every problem called for a look into the Book. Every situation required a thoughtful inspection of the truth and an action based on truth.

In other words, if Joshua would obey God's Word in the task to which God had
called him, Joshua would be prosperous and successful. He would victoriously accomplish the task God had given him.

Joshua's story ended happily: He did obey, and God greatly blessed him.

Follow Joshua's example, and your story can end happily, too.
